I think you'll be safe in the future if you:

*Ask and try to verify that buyer is a PA resident with LTCF, hopefully eliminating the chance of selling to a prohibited person

    AND

*Always use an FFL. Criminals won't want to use one and get checked...and I believe in a sales transaction, the FFL actually takes possession of the firearm legally by transfer until the buyer passes his check and it's transferred to his name. If it turns out to be an out-of-state buyer, that's between the FFL and buyer to transfer to an FFL in his home state to complete the transfer to him.

    Am I correct?

I always ask except this time I assumed, as he stated he had his PA LTCF, leading me to believe he was an in state resident.
I wont sell unless they have a Valid PA DL and a Valid PA LTCF.

The Valid LTCF means they are good to go, as long as they have a PA DL.

I dont like using FFL's for long-guns because then it becomes a hassle of both agreeing on one, they want to pay less because of the transfer fees, blah blah.

And I always use a Bill Of Sale verified with their DL info and mine.

This one happened to squeak by my radar with him volunteering to set up the bill of sale and telling me he had a PA LTCF.

Never had someone try to buy with a PA LTCF and be an out of state resident, that was a new one for me.

Armslist was off my list of buying venues after the last guy tried ripping me off with a face to face sale. Won't go into it, but needless to say, if the sale is not simple and the info exchanged is not readily made available...walk away.

Smart to not consumate the sale if it doesn't pass the smell test.
