Default Want a hunting and Trapping Digest this year?

Be prepared to pay $6.00 for it. I purchased my license online early this morning to ensure that I could get a DMAP tag for my selected area. I couldn't believe that I was asked if I wanted to PURCHASE a hunting digest. I understand that they aren't printed for free. I suppose the full page advertisements aren't cutting the mustard.

Since they can't get a license increase from the legislature, they are implementing fees and raising funds whereever they can. Hence the fee for the digest and the pheasant stamp.

    Sucks but I understand.

I admit I was very wasteful with those free Digests.
I had one at home, one at the cabin, one in my gear bag.
If I misplaced it I just grabbed another at the Walmart
If I had to pay for them I would have been less wasteful.

I also kept a PDF version on my tablet and my phone.
I will just stick with the PDF and maybe print some portions of the Digest at work.

Get ready for more of this type of thing, and not just with this publication. More and more media is being delivered digitally. If you want to print it, burn your own ink and paper.

Let's be honest, many of the stubborn old-timers (we all know who you are ) are bowing out of hunting as their bodies catch up to their numeric age. Those who are taking their place as the "old men" in the woods are in their 50s & 60s and are more tech savvy.

Personally, I'm fine with it. I think I know exactly where my 2016-2017 digest is - because I put it there when I got home after buying my 2016-2017 license and haven't touched it since. I keep the PDF copy in my Google drive which I can get to at any time from my computers, phone, or tablet. Let's face it, once we know the season dates, all we really care about is the sunrise/sunset table anyway.

Now if the PCG would only stop making us use those STUPID pink envelopes that retailers never seem to have...

There was a good idea to raise money via license sales this year and going forward....but they dropped the mag-fed gas operated ball on that one.

The digest was a good source of emergency TP in the woods.

It's the County Treasurers that are opposing the elimination of the pink envelopes.

The PGC employees are covered under the Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement Code that covers state workers. The Game Commission does not control the costs that it has to pay for this program.
