Cheep tumbler for cleaning a lot of brass
A while ago I picked up a concrete mixer from Harbor Frieght for $150. You put 55 pounds of walnut media in it. Almost a 5 gallon bucket of 9mm and let it run for 4 to 5 hours. They come out looking great

Re: Cheep tumbler for cleaning a lot of brass
I use a big ass concrete mixer I got for free. Walnut creates too much dust. I clean about 1000 pistol cases in 10 lbs of stainless pins, a DROP of dawn, a dash of lemonshine, and enough water to cover it all. Spin for 15 minutes. Drain and refill with water. Rinse and spin for 5 minutes. Brass looks like new. I lay it on a towel in my dehumidified basement under a ceiling fan for a few weeks and its dry. I do this with the primers in and I have never found water in the primer pocket while depriming.

Re: Cheep tumbler for cleaning a lot of brass
After the 5 hours of tumbling, I sift it in a media basket from dillon , roll them around on a towel and I'm ready to load. I unfortunatly don't have that kinda time.

Re: Cheep tumbler for cleaning a lot of brass
My cheap-ass four-year old Frankford arsenal vibe tumbler cleans 250 or so pistol brass like new in three hours. Covered, no dust. No water or soap, no need to rinse or dry. Just clean brass. When I get home from the range, brass gets dropped in the tumbler in the garage. Typically later in the day it will be sorted. Dirty brass doesn't accumulate. All my rifle and pistol brass is clean and ready to reload.
To each his own, but no one has ever provided a good reason to obsess over cleaning brass. All the important processing occurs after cleaning.

Frankski I'm not obsessing over cleaning brass. I just started this thread to inform your readers about how a concrete mixer can clean a lot of brass at one time. Once I clean it, it gets put into 55 gallon drums per caliber ready for the next phase as you said.

Yes, I wasn't referring to your method. That seems just like a big tumbler.
Out of curiosity, do you frequently clean large volumes? Is it for your own use or commercial use?

Re: Cheep tumbler for cleaning a lot of brass
I'm sure by now you know I'm in phoenix. So for the next 3 months the heat will be anywhere between 100 and 120. I try not to shoot In it. But from the end of Sept. To May I shoot a lot. Anywhere between 3k to 4k per week. Everything I do anymore is for me. I use to reload for people but it takes too much away from my own shoot time.
