I've carried a Browning Hi Power more than a 1911, but when I carry either it is cocked, and locked, round chambered. I do demand a positive safety detent that can not get accidentally swiped off.

I seldom carry my 1911. When I do it has a round chambered, hammer cocked and thumb safety on.

My EDC is a Kimber Micro 9 which has the same basic setup. I carry it the same way.

I use a Cross Breed holster for my 1911.
    Alien Gear for my Kimber
    I prefer the Alien Gear.

OP why don't you have the safety on? Me, a BHP one in the tube, cocked, safety on.

After I'm done shooting. I put the safty on holster the 1911,once in the holster I take the safty off. You still have a back strap safty. Your hand has to be around the back strap pressing it in to operate the weapon. It's faster in the draw.

You are the only one of those "some people" I've heard of.

    Condition 1 (cocked and locked).

I don't recommend cocked and unlocked. However, a Glock or similar striker fired pistol is just like a cocked and unlocked 1911. I know, the striker is only partially cocked. But, both are short, 5 lbs. trigger pull with very little take up, and no safety on. I always say; if you're comfortable with a glock, you should be comfortable with a 1911 carried cocked and chambered without the thumb safety engaged.
