I shoot at houses all the time when I do drive-bys in North Philly but I can't help you with this one cuz I've never almost shot a neighbor.

I went to visit yesterday, and the meeting went very well

The neighbor came out and we talked at length about all sorts of stuff. He said they had made up their minds to come visit me and let me know they had no hard feelings or anything, but I beat him to it. I also brought cookies my wife made. As I suspected, the bullet had made a sharp turn, and was spinning, and hit the post backwards. It left a mark on the post. He is also into shooting and said he could tell the bullet had not been pointed at their house and had obviously changed course.

Went home with a new friend.

Still crazy that it made it to his house.

As a gun guy, it seems he understands that there's almost no chance of it happening again. Freak occurrence.

    Thats great!

Don't you hate it when you get yourself all worked up imagining the worst, and it turns out absolutely fine?

Sounds like it turned out to be a good way to break the ice, and meet a cool neighbor.

It turned out the shooter had modified his trigger for competition, and he had accidentally, and unknowingly, fired a second round while his muzzle was pointed over a berm from recoil.
The bullet then traveled up an elevation, into an open building, and struck a soft fiberglass paneled drop ceiling.
The bullet hit the soft fiberglass at a shallow angle, and instead of penetrating, it slid across the surface of the fiberglass.
The fiberglass then changed the trajectory of the bullet, which then traveled on a downward angle, and hit the kid in the head sitting some distance away behind another range.

The point being, bullets do unexpected things.
It may have been the OP's bullet, it may not have.
But a shooter really needs to be as sure as possible, that they are shooting in as safe a direction as possible.
Personally, I like shooting in places where the backstop is at the base of a sizable hill or the base of a mountain.
A backstop for the backstop whenever possible.

Regardless of the eventual outcome in this case, the OP did good posting the story.
    A good learning lesson.
My thanks and Rep to the OP.
I saw this on TV. They figured out by the color of some substance used on a reload.
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise

The happy kind. I was surprised it took four posts and almost a week for the question
