The property damage issue probably trumps the conibear-in-water regulation. ...especially considering you are legally allowed to kill the critter by other means.

If there is a local animal control officers I would try contacting them. Sometimes they will come out, give you tips, and provide traps if needed. When I was young my cousin and I would mess with havahart traps and we always caught coons and groundhogs with apples. quarter the apples and rub it all over the inside and outside of the trap then throw the rest inside. Also make sure you cover the trap with grass and shit to camo it up a bit.

One time I ran the flimsy type PVC down into a hog hole. Turned on the garden hose and let it run for quite a while. No more hog!

You have to have man hands.

J/K The 220's and larger are tough, and don't feel particularly good when they let loose on your fingers. I used to be pretty good at it in my trapping days.

My wife asked me, "Will they suffer when they get caught in that?" I explained that it's not a chew your leg off when you get caught trap, it's a squeeze your eyes out of your head trap. She said, "Oh good!"
