Beat me to it. Great dogs for that problem as long as they are true to the breed and not some puppy mill dogs.
    Some people just plain suck.
If you're gonna be dumb ya gotta be tough.

CCI 22 CB Shorts, out of a rifle the sound of it hitting the hog is louder than the shot, I have louder pellet guns. Dial your manually operated rifle in for them, they are very accurate to 25-30 yards which is their effective range

Been tough to find since the shortage but slowly coming back, I shoot bunches of them in a small plinking range in my backyard, lots of fun

    Rodenator? What a great idea.

I could use that at my place. It looks like they're a few thousand bucks, and wouldn't be that difficult to build something similar.

All I can say is Good Luck when in a residential neighborhood. They aren't stupid and will purposely screw with you to a (nit) wits end. We had them and tried damn near everything and anything. Traps worked until they figured that out. Smoke bombs - nope, they go off into another tunnel and be good to go. The only thing that worked for me without a doubt was tossing a (found) dead cat into one of the holes. They refused to return to that hole for a couple years. Eventually, they all left or croaked or something but it had nothing to do with my efforts. One came back this year for a brief while then took off again. So...find dead animals and throw them into every ground hog hole you can find.

If you can get some dry ice put it in the hole, cover it with a board and bury it with dirt. The dry ice evaporates and smothers the groundhog.

Just heard it works but I have never tried it. Not sure how much dry ice to use either but more is always better!

Use an old sweeper hose, hooked up to an internal combustion Engine ( muffler ) , hose in the hole with dirt sealing it up . I have been in the same situation ( CLOSE NEIGHBORS ) AND IT WORKS !

Yes this works quite nicely, I fondly remember my father doing this with his '71 AMC Hornet, letting it idle for hours....but this was just before the gas embargo! had to go back to real hunting with 22's

Bubblegum. Unwrap a few pieces and drop in the holes. Hogs can't pass it and will die in the holes.
