Re: OC with badge next to gun smart or dumb?
Non LEO carrying a badge that's not officially recognised risks the chance of being arrested for impersonating a law enforcement officer. Just depends how much of a prick the LEO wants to be. I'll pass on the badge.
Lower your expectations to zero and you'll never be disappointed.

Re: OC with badge next to gun smart or dumb?
No matter what he's attempting to give the impression he's something that he isn't, a leo. That's a pretty bad idea, whether it's illegal or not and I don't really see what good it does. I can remember one fireman around when I was a kid that liked to dress up similar to a leo and display his fire police badge. He was a joke amongst most of the community and a real tool to boot. I don't know what was up with the guy you saw, but I'm sure the ppd has openings if he wants to be a cop. If he's so uncomfortable oc'ing that he feels he needs to wear some kind of half ass badge, then he should really reconsider ocing.

Re: OC with badge next to gun smart or dumb?
I pass both at different times during the week. I think there are bailiffs as well as sheriff's deputies around as well. A couple weeks ago I noticed a guy's printing/partially covered gun. He looked to be some sort of LEO not sure what type but something. He was in "street clothes" but he was right across the street from family court building.
Some people just plain suck.
If you're gonna be dumb ya gotta be tough.

Yeah it is a pretty busy area for law enforcement. I have seen the occasional bounty hunter in that area transporting their prisoner presumably to be arraigned. Those guys are usually wearing a shirt that says Bail Enforcement Agent or something similar. I can never recall one with a visible badge though.

Re: OC with badge next to gun smart or dumb?
I had no idea this was a thing that happened on the internet.
I do know a guy that did high end private protection for a pharma development lab. He was former Navy Seal or something and they were pretty decked out with the latest hardware. But, he never bragged about it and in fact rarely talked about it because the location of the lab was confidential (fear of corporate espionage stealing research I think).

It's OK to have a badge if he is wearing a mighty shirt.
