No OC, no badge, no 5.11 clothes. Just a haircut and attitude gets me free donuts.

"Well I shot the guy because I didn't have cuffs on me so I could wrestle him to the ground and wait for backup" is not much of an excuse. In fact it is not an excuse. If you are law enforcement then when on duty you need to carry the tools to deploy a reasonable amount of force to effect and arrest. "It was a hot day and I didn't want to wear a gun belt with a bunch of tools" is not a constitutional answer.
So are plainclothes officers or detectives or even top brass for that matter, supposed to wear a full duty rig with everything imaginable attached? Firearm, spare mags, ASP, Rubber Gloves, Tourniquet, Taser, handcuffs, Knife, flashlight, Mace, baton, etc.

When I worked plainclothes, it was firearm (concealed) on my belt, spare mag and handcuffs in a pocket. Badge hung from a chain around neck and revealed when needed.

If I would have worn the badge on my belt, it would have been next to the firearm, so if anyone saw the firearm, they also saw the badge.

Not what I saw. This detective was a south paw, and his badge was on the right side of the belt.
