Yesterday I had my 60 year old colonoscopy at Chester County Hospital and noticed 2 things had changed since my first one 10 years ago:

1. There is a BIG sign on the Admissions Office window with a handgun and knife with the crossed out circle symbol. In addition there was a sign for those who could read English that said "Weapons of all types prohibited."

2. When they took me into a room for my admitting vitals they made me come alone - wife had to stay outside. Besides taking temp., BP, weight, the admitting tech asked in a lowered voice "Are you being abused at home" and "Do you feel safe going home".

While I was not surprised to find the no weapons sign I was very surprised by the questions. Here I am a 60 year old man (ouch) and she was asking if my wife was abusing me.

I think these have now become common questions of any health care interaction now adays. And I can actually appreciate that they would ask that of children and teens. But I guess they have to ask everyone.

When I was a youngster and asked my father a question that the answer would be "never" he would give a more colorfull reply.

Me: "Dad when are we getting an air conditioner."
Dad: "When your dick grows a finger nail."

I wish that had happened to me when I was young. That would have showed him.

So the finger is getting better, dead skin is coming off. Buttttt I was looking at it and I realized the scar and healing skin LOOK LIKE A PENIS ON THE TIP OF MY PINKY. I HAVE A FREAKING PINKY PENIS! Or PENIS PINKY. What the heck!

I think these have now become common questions of any health care interaction now adays. And I can actually appreciate that they would ask that of children and teens. But I guess they have to ask everyone.

I am pretty sure it is a law, or a mandated protocol, that they need to ask if you're being abused or threatened.
I think they ask all patients regardless of age.
But elder abuse is unfortunately very common, either from family or from caregivers, so the older people get the more they look for it, especially when people become frail.
When I took an 85 year old family member to the hospital, the first thing they did was strip her down and look her over top to bottom for signs of abuse or neglect.

i lit a bottle rocket out my bedroom window. It hit the eaves and came right back and exploded on my forearm which was leaning on the sill. The plastic shrapnel drew a little blood, nothing much.
