Purchasing Shotguns
Wasn't sure where to post this so hope here is fine.
I have never purchased any firearms in the past, I am 18 years old and looking to purchase a shotgun.
What is the process for purchasing a shotgun? Like what do I have to show to buy one? Is there a waiting period? Etc. Stuff like that.

Re: Purchasing Shotguns
No felonies for me.
So it is that simple eh. Just gotta walk in with money and an ID and you can walk out with a shotgun.
With all the people who seem to be against guns these days I thought there might be some kind of catch.
Thanks for answering my question

Re: Purchasing Shotguns
No. There IS a catch.
Depending on where you go, there's a good chance you will have to endure advice such as:
"Pistol grip stocks are illegal - I don't know how we can get away with selling them."
"All you have to do is point and shoot, no aiming required."
"It's illegal to have a shotgun with a short barrel - it's because it makes them more deadly."
and my favorite:
"Yeah, those are assault rifles... but they're fakes - they are just copies of the real ones."(when asked about the AR and AK on the rack)
These are all things I heard from the sales person in Dunham's, as he talked to a young buyer the last time I was there.
Ask your questions HERE, before asking them at the store.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Purchasing Shotguns
1. select one or more you like.
2. fill out the federal 4473 form. You will fill in name, address, city and date of birth, county, then you will answer yes or no to a series of questions. be careful and read them - a couple are worded weird. Then sign and date the form.
3. wait for dealer to make the PICS call.
4. upon approval - hand him/her your money.
5. take receipt.
6. walk out the door with your new shotgun(s).RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: Purchasing Shotguns
You will need a valid goverment issued photo ID. Drivers lic. works well - not expired. Good luck with your first firearm, it probably won't be your last!!

Re: Purchasing Shotguns
Question about purchasing a used shotgun from a private owner - Do you have to do such at a dealer's shop in order to transfer the title? I was told I "should", was told that "shouldn't because that's just throwing away $10 or $25 (whatever the fee may be) and it's not necessary", and "there is no law requirement to do so on a rifle", and was also told it is an illegal sale/purchase if you don't"...
Does anyone know definitively, the correct answer to this quesiton? My apologies if this had already been answered in another feed that I have not seen.

Re: Purchasing Shotguns
you dont need to do it at a gun shop just a bill of sale. However I do not like to do that way wihtout at least seeing a valid license to carry firearms. There are too many dishonest people out there and id rather have the extra piece of mind by having them run the PICS on them

Re: Purchasing Shotguns
Thank you for your response! Actually, this is a purchase from a friend and coworker. We go to the range at least every other weekend together, but never purchased or sold privately to anyone. We BOTH have our valid driver's licenses and both have our valid Licenses to Carry... Neither of us were sure about the law requirement, if any, having gotten so many different responses from people we know.
