Default FIL (NJ resident) wants to gift me his guns: can he drive here and do FFL transfer?

    Title sums it up!

My father-in-law -- a New Jersey resident -- would like to gift me some of his guns (2 long guns, 1 pistol). Yes, I know we can't do a face-to-face transfer since we're from different states. I know we have to go through an FFL.

My question is on process. Can we both drive directly to a Pennsylvania FFL (assuming all FOPA laws on transport are followed, plus NJ and PA transport laws) and do the transfer, no fuss/no muss? I believe we can, but would like confirmation. He doesn't have to ship them to the FFL, correct? Showing up in person with the firearms and transferring them to me via the FFL is acceptable and legal?

    Thanks everyone.

I did the same thing with a couple shotguns and a revolver. I had my in-laws drive the guns to me in PA and we transferred them via my FFl. I am legally the registered owner of them now.

No issues were had on either side.

Registered? registered? It is illegal to have a gun registry in PA. perhaps your Referring to the sales data base for pistols.

Short answer, yes, as long as the laws for transport are followed.

The short answer is indeed yes. The longer answer is whether NJ gives one shit about your FIL's intentions since FOPA doesn't cover him while in NJ. The long guns guns should not be an issue if he has a firearms ID card or whatever they call it. The handgun is the potential iffy situation.
