Default Ruger recalling Mark IV pistols

Ruger is recalling all Mark IV pistols made before. 1/1/17. The text below is from the Ruger website. If you know Mark IV owners, spread the word.

Ruger recently discovered that all Mark IV™ pistols (including 22/45™ models) manufactured prior to June 1, 2017 have the potential to discharge unintentionally if the safety is not utilized correctly. In particular, if the trigger is pulled while the safety lever is midway between the "safe" and "fire" positions (that is, the safety is not fully engaged or fully disengaged), then the pistol may not fire when the trigger is pulled. However, if the trigger is released and the safety lever is then moved from the mid position to the "fire" position, the pistol may fire at that time.

That would be before 6/1/17, which probably means all that are currently for sale or have been sold to this point.

Isn't there a recall notification sticky somewhere on the forum?

    A Ruger recall. That's a surprise.

    Noah,
I understand the sentiment but let's be fair, Ruger found a problem and is addressing it. I own one of the recalled pistols. They are making it pretty easy to return (well designed web site to register, sending a box and label, returning the repaired grip assembly with a free magazine). I have more than one Ruger and have been a happy owner for a very long time. Ruger has had a few missteps but always owns up to them, IMHO that makes them a stand up company.

It is at the top of this section, and this was posted there first. http://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=139477

However that thread is not for discussion, only notification.

Why is it that the bulk of the firearms recalls I can think of over the past 10 years involve people doing stupid stuff with the safety?

I'm confused on what the problem is. If you have the safety half on half off, pull the trigger, you think you hear the striker release, but in fact it doesn't? Then if you put it fully on fire and pull the trigger, it will (or may?) Release the striker?

Seems like this is a problem that can be avoided with proper operation of the safety and not trusting a manual safety. But I understand why Ruger would do a recall.

Gotta agree with the above comment. Who whuda thunk a gun might fire if the safety isn't fully/properly engaged. Huh

Doesn't sound broke. Sounds like there have been some user errors.
