Default remove red locktite from receiver

Lever action that had red locktite applied to a scope base. Got the base off the rifle but am left with a layer of red locktite on the top of the receiver.
What's the best way to remove it?
    Thanks in advance.

If you got the screws and the base off consider yourself very lucky! Not sure if a hair drier will get hot enough but that is what I would try first to soften it. You might need a heat gun. Then scrape off as much you can with a scrap piece of brass. Any brass residue will come off with 0000 steel wool and it will not hurt the blueing.

Then try every solvent you can find in your garage. First choice would be acetone or a paint remover with methylene chloride. Then paint thinner or break or carb cleaner.....

    Then google!

Pick it off with your fingernail or a sharpened PLASTIC knife.
Wipe off all remaining with 0000steel wool.

I have one of these, guaranteed to get it hot enough.

Lemme guess - you used that to cut PVC? Or maybe railroad tracks?

Looks like one heck of an easily explainable tool that magically shows up one day in the garage....

This video tests five different methods for removing red permanent threadlocker (loctite) - soldering iron, hairdryer, butane lighter, heat gun, and torch. The butane lighter, heat gun, and torch are all feasible methods.
