Default NY Resident travel to Philly Airport without CCW?

    Hi All,

I am a NY resident (I have a license to own a handgun in my homestate, but not a license for conceal carry in my homestate - NY requires a license just to own, and a separate license for conceal carry). I however do have a Utah non resident CCW license. I am looking to fly out of Philly to Colorado, and spend time in Colorado, Utah, Montana, Wyoming (all but Colorado honor my utah CCW). Even if I do not have a CCW permit in my home state, or a license that Philly has reciprocity with, am I still able to transport my firearm to Philly unloaded, in a locked case in my luggage to declare at the Philly airport and fly with? To my understanding, Pennsylvania does not require any permit to own a firearm, as as long as I transport it locked, and unloaded, I believe I should be fine to transport to airport and fly out of the airport with it.

When I land, I would transport it locked, and unloaded throughout colorado (which also does not require a permit or FOID to own a handgun), but once in the other states, I would be free to carry.

    Thanks for any input

read thoroughly, and unlike NY Philly can't make it's own rules-even when it thinks it can.

    Wait for other replies but...

A non-reciprocal license in PA will cover you for having a loaded handgun in your car (but not carrying on your person). If that's the case, unloaded should definitely be fine to check in at the airport.

I'd be more worried about CO and NY portions of your journey than PA.
