Ok, I can see why there were no Glocks. They would not be on my list of guns for those type of competitions either. Maybe the steel plate match, but none of the others.
Any vote for a third party is a vote for a Democrat. You are the enemy.

I'm a Glock enthusiast, but my reasons are (mostly) practical.
First, they're an eminently reliable gun. My G19 and G43 feed any and everything. Give me a handful of 9mm and they'll shoot it. My G34 can be a little finicky about low power ammo, but anything factory made is good to go. They fill the need of a handgun reliable enough that I feel confident trusting the weapon with my self defense.
Second, they're an easy gun to operate, and they operate in the same manner as my duty pistol. The ease of use make them ideal (in my opinion) when teaching new shooters the basics of firearms safety, and shooting.
Third, I know how to work on them. It is easy to entirely break the pistol down and reassemble it. Knowing how to completely take apart one of my Glocks means that I know how to take any of them apart. Sticking (loosely) within one manufacturer makes my knowledge on one pistol translatable to others I own.
Third, any tools that I buy for one Glock, be it a sight pusher, or a front sight tool, will be able to work on other pistols I own as well as numerous are other models of Glocks.
Fourth, my closest friends all carry and shoot 9mm Glock pistols as well, so knowing how to install a trigger or do whatever on my pistols makes me a resource for my friends as well. It also means that tools, spare magazines, and spare parts are all interchangeable between us. Also, when you frequently compete with your shooting buddies, all shooting the same model of pistol levels the playing field somewhat.

There are many, many serviceable pistols out there for any use. Find one you like.

edit: The aftermarket for Glocks is HUGE as well, if you're the type of person that likes to change parts on your guns Glocks are a great option.

    I guess you're right. This wouldn't apply to 1911s...

Yes, but even an idiot can put a Glock back together without scratching it.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Many 1911 parts need fitting and then finishing.

My gunsmith sees multiple 1911's yearly that the owner has filed this or that too much causing this or that to not function.
Yes the 1911 does enjoy a huge aftermarket parts and accessories supply, but it not too often they are drop in parts.
The beauty of the Glock is that you rarely have to pay a smith to change stuff up.

Some people drive Chevy. I can work on a Chevy.

Some people drive Rolls Royce. I don't fabricate nearly well enough to work on a Rolls.

For pure operating pleasure, I bet a Rolls is hard to beat.

You get as much pleasure as you're willing to pay for...
