Hate to say it, but now I'm glad I wasn't tempted to buy one.

Thanks for the update, sounds like a company that will never see a dollar from me.

so I just got an email from JRA stating that the rifle is on its way back to me..
Great! So what was the issue? Was it fixed.. WTH is going on?

Seriously $1200 gun and no customer service...
I also was looking at the "Rock-Ola" branded M1As but after this fiasco.. not gonna happen.

So according to JRA.. they replaced the bolt and extractor.. I was told they fired some Herter's? (Steel Case?) and the gun cycled now without issue.
I also asked about mag wobble and was told they did some additional fitting but some movement is normal..

I would make a point to shoot it ASAP.

So it went out to the range over the weekend and the rifle cycles now without issue.
However I can tell you that it still feels different between ammo types.. I was using GGG M80 and the gun cycled smoothly.. then switched over to ZQI and the gun felt alot rougher..
Need to zero the irons but it works.

    I don't own a BM-59 but I shoot a lot of 7.62x51 surplus.

The GGG - along with 90's era DAG & MEN, 80's era Portuguese, 90's era LC ammo, and current production "Federal "M1A ammo" - is top notch. On the right day I can get 2 MOA groups out of all of these using a M1A/M14 clone.

The ZQ1, current production LC (American Eagle or surplus), Winchester 7.62, 80's Indian are all safe to shoot but pretty much crap ammo for accuracy IMO. I would expect 4 MOA plus and some noticeable inconsistencies in powder loads. Not bad enough to mess up your rifle but possibly enough to affect how reliably it runs and certainly enough to affect accuracy, especially in a rifle that tends to run on the finiky side anyway. Also note that ZQ1 may be labeled M80 but I don't think it actually carries the NATO cross on the brass. That does say something...

The Austrian and Israeli surplus runs on the hot side.so it may shift your POI significantly vs. other surplus ammo

I also run a lot of steel case 7.62x51 but would never run it through a rifle in the M1/M1A/M14 family. I am surprised to hear JRA does so. IMO the chamber is too tight to risk it.

Please NEVER shoot 90's Indian or Paki 7.62x51 ammo of ANY vintage. I consider it dangerous.

For your rifle and with it's history I would stick to the better stuff...
    YMMV

You need a relatively fast powder to cycle a M-1 Garand properly, I assume a BM-59 is similar (probably a M-14 too)

Its about the pressure at the barrel port. Not the velocity of the cartridge. A slower powder will have a higher pressure at the port and cycle the oprod violently. Some commercial hunting rounds have been known to bend a Garands oprod or beat the receiver to hell. I would search .308 ammo suitable for a M-14 or load your own using a powder with the original loading specs.

This is correct, you want ammo that matches the design pressure curve for best operation. I read an article on this a bit back and will have to see if I can find it again.
