Re: Used my firearm in an emergency scenario today
Same here, smoke is nothing after a crash, could have simply been oil that leaked out onto the motor when the filler tube got broken off or the transmission fluid that pumped out of a broken cooler.
It's great to be a Good Samaritan and I am not going to disparage anyone for being one, just be aware that you can cause someone serious lifelong injuries when not using the proper immobilization techniques when moving someone.
A head on or rearend crash can cause a spine injury pretty easily.

Re: Used my firearm in an emergency scenario today
Most likely, you're right. The smoke might, and very probably is, nothing. However, the people trapped inside the car are not going to really want to wait in the car and find out, and if they are both fully ambulatory and responsive, good luck keeping them in there.
I know how to hold C-spine, if anyone needs it.Junior

On that note, my fiance's daughter - who was standing aside and watching - said that two of the salesman from the lot we were supposed to be going to had come over to her and asked her if I was a firefighter.Corruption is the default behavior of government officials. JPC

Re: Used my firearm in an emergency scenario today
Yeah. Crown Vic is certainly one of those. If I don't have gear stowed securely in the trunk, and run emergency speed to a call, gear (small door ram & haligan tool) goes flying in the truck, hits the fuel pump cutoff, and renders me immobile until I reset the switch in the trunk. (Ask me how I know). Last time this happened, the thing wouldn't reset. Finally found that unsecured gear knocked the wiring plug out of the bottom of the switch.
My first concern when reading the OP.
Eased my earlier concern.

thought vehicles had sensors to shut off fuel when they're upside down, not really any other position.
has anyone ever broken a window with a knife? methinks the small point of impact would provide for very little additional force, press knife to window and whack butt with object of choice.
thats kind of how the sparkplug trick works.
GJ viper.
something to be said for living in the sticks though. less people, less encounters. There is no way to make it out alive...
