Reloading 8mm mauser

I am starting to reload 8mm mauser for my newly purchased k98, strictly for shooting targets.. i would like to see what type of components fellow reloaders have had good luck with using for 8mm.. brass, bullets, powder.. etc.. thx guys

Although I have a few 7.92 x 57 as distinct from the earlier calibre also known as 8 mm Mauser, I do not reload, as I have well over a thousand surplus 8 mm. Yes these are corrosive, but since all K98s will have been fed a diet of these rounds in their lifetime, I do not worry, hot water and soap works very well. Might be worth looking around to see what is still available. Dave_n

Thanks for that link.....8mm can be hard to find at times and often pretty pricey.

I have had pretty good results with my reloads, not loading that hot, just worked up accurate loads.

Surplus has unfortunately dried up, projectiles and brass can be pricey but the results can be well worth reloading. I have a couple decent loads worked up one with Varget and the other with 4895.

Look for your other bullet needs as well... Nosler's SPS can have some outstanding deals on their other ammo , brass and bullets, and flat $12 shipping.

I've had great success with Hornady 150gr SP bullets, Remington brass and IMR-4895 for loads in my K98.

Just to put it out there. When short on brass I have case formed 30-06 brass into 8MM. I reload 8MM however I Reload my cast Lyman 165 grain bullets stuffed with Red-dot. They make a great plinking load.

If just killing paper why not just go with cast bullets . A lot easier on the shoulder and still accurate enough out to 200 yds with a load your rifle likes . A pound of 2400 powder will last along time at 16-17 grs a shot .if you don't cast your own bullets there still probably cheaper to buy than jacketed .

Depends on the bullet of course but for the 150's I started low, and have settled on 46 grains, well below max.

I also had 175's loaded at 45 grains.

Both loads worked good for me, shooting out of several different mausers.

I did make some brass out of .30-06, they worked ok also, been mulling over casting my own 8mm bullets as well.
