Former and possible future PA resident
We left PA almost 10 years ago for Tennessee to remain employed.
With thoughts of returning in a year or two, depending on circumstances.
There has been "social media" buzz about restrictive gun laws pending in PA.
Our return depends on whether or not PA remains a free state.
Opinions are appreciated.

Re: Former and possible future PA resident
Their are dozens of antigun bills in every state. People write them for political reasons, whether they think they can pass or not.
We have a carry rate close to 1 out of 7. We have more carry licenses than any state except Florida, and they have a larger population and we are close. We have more NRA members than any other state. Every Monday after Thanksgiving we deploy the 6th largest armed force on the entire planet to go kill Bambi, 750,000 people. In some areas schools and businesses close.
Nobody can predict the future. Right now there is no real chance of any anti-gun legislation. But you will have to fight with us to keep it that way. If you don't know how, we will show you.

Re: Former and possible future PA resident
Don't confuse Pennsylvania for New York.
Every state has proposed anti-gun bills. But in PA nothing really has ever passed. Heck, not only do anti-gun bills not pass, but neither do pro-gun bills.
BTW - other than the constitutional carry states, PA's carry laws are one of the top in the nation(except those vehicle and Philly things).RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: Former and possible future PA resident
My wife and I fled the Socialist Republic of NJ to come here. We actually attended the FOAC Trenton rally back in 2012 and were quite impressed with the commitment of Pennsylvanians to remain free. That made the decision a lot easier. We are happy we made the decision, committed to take full advantage of the rights afforded us here that we were denied in NJ. Still, we have learned we have to fight for our rights to preserve them. I am also learning that anyone who values the Second Amendment will have to fight to preserve it, no matter what state you choose to live in. Some are better than others, but you still have to fight. Pick any State and you will find Bloomberg money being spent, tons of it, to steal your rights.
I do believe that the anti-Constitution politicians, lobbyists and their cash dispensers are becoming better organized here and so we must increase our vigilance and presence accordingly. Urban leftist blocs in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Scranton, and Pittsburgh will always remain a threat to freedom and Constitutional governance. But even in Texas, you have the same problem in Austin, San Antonio, and to a lesser degree, Houston. It is the truly rare state that does not suffer this. States strangled by one party rule, where the opposition has been gerrymandered into a permanent minority (i.e. California, New York, Maryland, Illinois, and New Jersey), are already the equivalent of Jim Crow states as it relates to the Second Amendment. Pennsylvania is not that.

They will never give up on gun control so neither should we for keeping our freedoms. Stay vigilant and we shall remain a "free state".

Re: Former and possible future PA resident
If you want to move northwest from Tennessee you don't have many choices. Kentucky is one but why bother.......I love West Virginia and it is great firearms wise. Virginia is just OK (but it is likely to get worse).
Then there is Pa. We bitch a lot but it is an island of sanity. Everything else up here forget about it!
My vote would be WVa or Pa. Or go South or WestLast edited by Delkal; May 10th, 2017 at 11:12 PM.

Re: Former and possible future PA resident
In my opinion the two worst gun restrictions we currently have in PA are:
- The PA State Police handgun registry
- The fact that unless one has a license to carry a firearm or falls under one of the exceptions, one can’t carry a handgun in his or her vehicle even if it’s lock and unloaded
However these laws have been around for quite a while. Recently we got a bill passed that allows hunting with semi autos but I believe the PA game commission is limiting it to only small game.
As already mentioned, numerous anti- gun bills are introduced in every state. Gun owners here don’t get everything we want, but most of the surrounding states are 100 times worse.(NY,NJ,MD)Last edited by eagleclaw; May 11th, 2017 at 12:45 PM. Reason: wrong information

Yup, we have an official gun registration in PA called the Record of Sale. If it quacks like a duck... They have been pushing hard for Universal gun registration so that even long guns will go onto the Registration list that is facetiously called Record of Sale like they are fooling someone.
Corruption is the default behavior of government officials. JPC
