Bipod yields better results than a bag. How come??
Everything I read, including Plaster's Ultimate Sniper, indicates a bag under the front is preferable to a bipod. Little by little, over a few years of working up loads for a Savage 10 .308, I keep finding better groups happen with bipod than a bag. Heel of rifle is supported the same both ways....small bag.
Seems better control of the rifle during firing occurs with a bipod. In this case, the bipod is not a Harris. It's a $30 job with rubber feet. I place nothing to rest the feet upon...it is just on the hard wood bench top.

The bipod is more stable, and you cannot cant the rifle with a bipod like you can with a rifle on bags.
The bipod is like "tricycle" landing gear -- three hard points.

I don't know how this could be unless somehow the bag is making contact with the barrel or somehow putting pressure on the stock in a different fashion.

6 to one, half a dozen to another. One thing that is constant is that whatever the shooter is more comfortable with, will be more accurate.

I always rest my bipod on the bag.

or, the "overachiever" is an egomaniac with psychological shortcomings who goes beyond simply performing the expected task by grossly exagerating the scope, just to prove they can and tho divert attention from the fact that they are pompous insecure little brown nosers that are trying to get the bosses attention and make everyone else look bad. In my opinion, If the "over acheiver had enough time to do all the extraeneous activities, he is clearly under utilized and probably could have completed 3 tasks within scope to one task with all the extra non value added bells and whistles
In short, no one likes a showoff,
I get better groups shooting offhand standing, bags and bipods are for kids. I didn't know what the rifle vises were for, and a guy let me use his. Some dude named Barak Obama asked me what I was doing when he saw me shooting my rifle while clamped in the vise , standing, at 400yds, getting sub moa. I asked him how they can shoot this with the clamp thingy digging into their shoulder, I had to keep switching between left and right hand to keep from developing callouses on one shoulder, and wearing a hole in my mighty shirt. My rifle was a daisy red rider. Iron sights.
True story.
I also shoot my pistol with a live #100 pig under each arm and a live weasel in my pants to simulate stressful combat situations.Last edited by bigandy1966; May 11th, 2017 at 07:02 AM.
