Re: Gander Mountain Going Out of Business - NATIONWIDE
Well, ALL "store closing" discounts are a "sales ploy" - they advertise a percentage off in hopes that people buy.
Depending on WHO handles the store closing liquidations, you could be getting a deal, or you could be paying MORE than the original price.
Companies often hire outside contractors to handle these things and many times they raise ticketed prices then advertise "Everything 15-20% OFF!"
Local Kmarts did this and while some items (mainly items with Kmart prices printed right onto the packaging) were actually discounted, many items (items that would typically only have a price on the shelf below the item) had price tags applied to them - price tags with prices much higher than the original price. Even after the discount, you still paid the same or more than original.
They stretch the sales for months because it's just a matter of time - people see "XX% OFF" and they think they are getting a deal so they buy.
Once the discounts are actually worth considering, the selection is down to almost nothing.
I don't know how GM is handling their store closings - I just know that they have stretched them out for a long time.
Will the surviving locations remain "Gander", and keep the same inventory, or does Camping World have plans to change them completely? Hard to say.
I hope the huge, new store near here remains open. I don't go there much because I just don't have that much to spend there, but I'd like to see it remain. There are very few places in the retail world that still carry the things I like the way they do.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Gander Mountain Going Out of Business - NATIONWIDE
The best going out of business sale I have ever had the great opportunity to participate in was the bank run sale when East Coast went out of business.
It was the bank doing the markdowns and they just wanted to clear the place out.
I bought a dozen different guns at 50% of dealer cost.
A Crickett .22 was one, for $42.
Mossberg 590A1 for $229.
AR lowers for $19.95
PPU 5.56 1000rnds for $89.
12ga Federal LE slugs were $1.50 a box.
Blazer .22 bricks for $10
I missed out on the Pelican rifle cases for $49, because like a dumbass I went to work instead of stopping in before like I was doing for a week.

While I'm sorry to see a business fail since it has a bad effect on many working folks, I won't miss GM at all. They were well over-priced on much of their goods.

Just stopped in, now with the up to 30% off they are only about 20% higher than everyone else, and they wonder why they are going out of business.

I think there's more hate shown towards Gander for having high prices than there is for Dick's for standing with the antis and labeling all of you as baby killers.
