My only experience on this subject is that I tried a dust cover mount. Let's just say I would be happy to give it to you if we were closer.

I've been using a Russian PK01VS on an AK Master Mount since my SLR has no built in scope rail. After I got the screws/studs for the mount tightened up/Loctited properly it has worked very well for me - it mounts by replacing the FCG pins and as long as you don't beat the crap out of it works quite well and is probably the most versatile option if you don't have a side rail.

As for the optic it's about what you'd expect from a military grade Russian optic. It just works and is built like a tank.

I have the PK-01V with integrated mount. Like all Russian optics, very tough. Not exactly compact though. That said, I like it because it just looks right on an AK rifle. If I were more concerned with only function, I'd get the RS Regulate.

Back when I had AKs, I ran an Eotech on a TWS Dogleg rail and a Vortex Strikefire with an RS 30mm mount. I really liked the RS and how it co-witnessed with the iron sights. Now I have no AKs, but still have the mount. Maybe I'll get another one some day.

Does the QD lever protrude into the trigger guard at all? I was looking at getting one since it's significantly cheaper than an RS Regulate mount, but I'm left handed. Concerned that the little bump on the bottom of the lever would get in the way.

I want to thank everyone that gave me input on their preference for mounting a RDS on the AK, I chose to go with a knock off of the RS Regulate mount, and I think I'm going to go with the Bushnell TRS-25 RDS.
