For some reason I just pictured someone trying to grab my gun from behind. It did not occur to me that someone would try to grab it from the front. That would ensure an action more along the lines of what ungawa suggests.

My rape whistle from the 'woman's study' class i took decades ago while in college is still functional. I carry it as my back up to my 'new york carry' EDC system... guess i would use the whistle and fight to ward off such an attack and hope for the best.

I would hope that being over 6' tall and wide enough to fill a doorway would be enough to deter most attempts, but should it fail I'd like to think my general automatic response to being grabbed unseen would come in handy - spin and punch at average face level. I was bouncing last year and had a guy grab me by the neck from behind, I knocked his hands away, spun, and wound up punching him right in the mouth (I was aiming for the nose and ended up a little low since he was like 6'6") and that was all it took for him to rethink his next few actions, even while drunk.

It's actually a really bad automatic response to have on the job, almost punched a guy in the mouth who grabbed my shoulder as I walked past the bathrooms to ask me which unlabeled bathroom was the men's room... (I wanted to punch him after I heard his question though. FFS it's the one with the urinals visible from the door, with the line of dudes outside it, not the one with the cluster of women at the door)
