    Default What's a good 357 Mag round?

I live in PA and occasionally run into black bears. I know it is recommended to have a 44 mag or larger for bear defense, but at the moment that is not an option. I have a 357 Mag and I would like to know what a good self defense round would be against bears?

    Thanks, Isaac

I should have mentioned that the revolver is a rather cheap one made by Charter Arms, so that being said, would I be able to use those Buffalobore ones?

I wasn't trying to be a dick. BB says you can shoot them out of any modern revolver. I never shot them out of a charter arms. I have owned a few charter arms snub nose revolvers and they were good revolvers. I carry these in a N frame Model 27. I think if the choice is to fire one out of a charter arms or get mauled by a bear I would pull the trigger.

In a bear attack you will be luky to get one shot off.

I have a 357 Charter Arms Bulldog with 6" barrel. It's one of the Stratford line produced in the late 70's. Ive shot a number of different loads from it from 110 up to 158 grain. So far so good. A few loads had claimed factory spec velocities nearing 1500fps. I

Seven reported black bear attacks since 2010.

If I were concerned about a black bear attack, I'd figure out how to get up into the .44 and larger calibers.

Buffalo Bore rounds are pretty stout, probably best served from a Ruger or Smith.
