Self Defense LTCF
Would a LTCF (self defense) be considered a CCW? Self Defense is on my license.
Thanks

Re: Self Defense LTCF
Here in Pennsylvania we don't have a CCW, whatever that is. The fact that your Pa. LTCF states "self defense" is essentially immaterial.
With a Pa. LTCF, one may carry a firearm (as described in the statute) either on one's body concealed (which includes carrying it in a purse, handbag, backpack or briefcase, etc.), or carry/transport in/on a vehicle (horse, go-cart, riding lawnmower, bicycle, automobile, etc.), or carry either openly or concealed in a city of the first class (of which there is only one - Philadelphia), or carry during a declared state of emergency.
Additionally, a Pa. LTCF is valid statewide; the county of issuance is merely that, the county that issued the state license.
Lastly, open carry requires no license, except in a city of the first class.

Re: Self Defense LTCF
CCW = Concealed Carry Weapon
CWP = Concealed Weapons Permit
CCP = Concealed Carry Permit
CCL = Concealed Carry License
CWL = Concealed Weapons License
CDW = Concealed Deadly Weapon
LTCF = License to Carry Firearms
They're all pretty much the same thing, and give you (back) the right to carry according to the laws of the state you're in. The PA LTCF does not require, nor does it say anywhere, Concealment (neither does Texas anymore). It IS, however, required if you *want* to Conceal (or carry in a car, or carry in Philly, or carry during a state of emergency).
Someone holding a PA LTCF and visiting a state that issues a "CCW" that also provides reciprocity to PA would effectively have a "CCW" while in that state, other than the federal GFSZA.
Clear as mud?

Re: Self Defense LTCF
Suffolk County requires a reason to have your CCW thus target or self defense,Also keep in mind the powers that be could revoke at any time for a moral character clause that would include certain divorce process even if no domestic violence occured,they really dont want you to have a ccw and can find a miriad of reason to take it away unde moral character clause they use it quite often too.

Which box is checked doesn't make a difference in what your license does/doesn't do.

Re: Self Defense LTCF
In the lovely State of New York, an unrestricted license (i.e., self defense) allows personal carry. A restricted license (i.e., target) allows transport, not carry; thus it's not CCW.
To make matters worse, even though the license is issued under the provisions of state law and clearly states "State of New York" on the license, the five counties comprising New York City do not honor such licenses issued in the other 57 counties.
We don't have such problems in Pennsylvania. Here a license is a license is a license - there are no (unlawful) locally-applied restrictions. Additionally, all such licenses are valid throughout Pennsylvania, no exceptions.
Hopefully national reciprocity will pass. Then the few remaining citizens (not subjects) in New York and New Jersey will look at what they have, what we have, and start asking questions.

Re: Self Defense LTCF
Yes, you can conceal with that license.
It should say "Self Defense." By the law it makes no difference but if you end up shooting someone (God forbid) and end up in court with a stupid jury and a rabid DA and your license says "Fishing" or some shit and you weren't fishing at the time I could imagine something going sideways, at least temporarily. "Self Defense" inherently means you plan to have it at all times.
Also, there is at least one nearby state (Ohio?) where you can't carry in a car unless your license is approved for self defense/protection.

Thank you for your response. I was just curious since my license is new.

Re: Self Defense LTCF
Some county sheriffs will automatically default it to Self Defense regardless of what box was checked, that way everything is covered.

Re: Self Defense LTCF
Why would anyone NOT check "Self Defense"?
Seriously, do you think you won't be allowed to target practice with it if it "only" says Self Defense?
