    Default 10.5" or 16"+ 300 BlackOut Upper 1/7 or 1/8 Twist?

So I'm thinking of spending birthday monies on a PSA 300BO upper. But I don't know if I should put it on my pistol lower which would be the 10.5" upper, or put it on my Colt6920 lower which would utilize the 16"+ upper.

Also which twist rate is better 1/7 or 1/8?

Or should I play the NFA game and put paperwork in to make my AR pistol an SBR?

I'm soon to be building a 8" upper for my SBR and getting a suppressor, this is the ideal length if you ever plan on suppressing it.

I can honestly say that a supressor isn't even close to being in my future. So I'm not concerned about that. I already have an 8.5" 5.56 upper on my pistol now. So I'd like something longer to distinguish between the two.

Well since I have absolutely no use for a pistol AR I'd go 16". Not a knock on you I just prefer stocks on AR's

To answer your question, I would go with shorter barrel and use as pistol or SBR it if your willing. Since your not looking to suppress it then either twist will work.

Hope you don't mind me interjecting my 2 cents but if your not going to suppress then the 300 black is a waste. if your going the 16" route just Get yourself a 7.62x39 upper, spend less on ammo and get similar performance.

My thoughts on the 300 BO vs 7.62x39. With the 300 the only thing different is the barrel, mags, bcg are the same as the 5.56, yes ammo is more but all parts between the 5.56 and 300 are the same.

I also agree that the 300 is best suited for suppression.

I have a 10" barrel 300BO SBR, and I run my Recce 7 on it.

Definitely don't do 16"... 10.5 is Max for 300 blackout imo.... Especially if you ever plan on shooting subsonics through it.

1/7 twist, without a doubt. Don't bother with the 1:8.

And submit your paperwork for your SBR. Mine was originally a pistol and I though I would keep it that way. I eventually saw the light and decided I would much rather have a stock and not deal with watching over my shoulder, if someone would see me accidently shoulder my brace.

If I wanted 7.62x39 I'd get some AK variant.

The best part for me with 300BO is that I can use same mags, same BCG and CH, which I already have.

Yeah, I guess that's why Ruger makes the American Ranch in 300 Blackout with a 16" barrel and 1:7 twist.
I have one with a Rugged Surge 762 on it and shoot Remington 220 gr Open Tip Match (Subsonic) with a 3-9x-40 and shoot 1-1.5 MOA at 100 yds (with a bipod). I have not reloaded for it yet but will to see if I can do better

I do agree about the 1:7 twist, better all around.

I just finished building an AR in 300BO with a 16" barrel but haven't had a chance to test it yet. It is set up for a suppressor also.

Well I believe the topic was about AR pistols/SBRs chambered in 300 blackout...... Not bolt guns. It kinda makes a difference, unless Ruger started making the American Ranch as a pistol, with a Sig brace?

Unless you are the oddest person in the world and SBRed a bolt gun.
