Pike newbie
About to close on 20+ ac of raw land in Greentown (Palmyra Twp). Looking for relevant ordinances that would govern my ability to shoot targets on my property. Have done a lot of searching online but haven't found much... and I'm not quite sure if I need to look for Greentown, Palmyra Twp, or Pike Cty. Any help for this newbie would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Pike newbie
Palmyra Township would be the governing body for zoning laws; I'd start there.
http://palmyrapike.org
Looks like they have a very broadly written Nuisance ordinance on the books:
Ordinance 96-2005 Section 3 H. Any noise source, including, but not limited to, music, loud speakers, barking dogs, vehicles, tools or equipment, which due to intensity, frequency, duration, location, lack of shielding or other reason which causes injury, damage, hurt, inconvenience, annoyance, or discomfort to others in the legitimate use and enjoyment of their rights of person or property.
In any event I'd go to the Township bldg. and inquire, do your due diligence.

Welcome from next door Dreher township in Wayne. Your township building is on Brink Hill Rd. Stop on in.
Here, they told me that it would only be a problem if someone complained...my neighbors actually like it when we shoot..."it lets the riff raff know that it's not a good place to mess around in".

Re: Pike newbie
We have a place in Greentown off of Shiny Mountain Road. WE shoot down by the creek at the bottom of our development occasionally and the er are neighbors that shoot out the back of their Property towards the woods often. I've seen a Target affixed to a tree about 15 yards from their house. No one has said anything about it.
The area is sparsely patrolled by PSP from the Blooming Grove barracks.

Re: Pike newbie
Rules and regulations are written in order to cover every possible situation.
If you have 20 acres... it's a sizable lot - how close are your neighbors?
I have a less than 5 acres lot, with woods in the back.
Neighbors are about 200 yards, left and right.
I do .22 target shooting fairly often from my back porch.
Other people in the community do the same.
I hear occasionally sounds of .223 or 7.62x39.
Rule of thumb: if nobody complains...
Now; if you discharge from a 155 howitzer every morning at 6:00 AM... you might have visits from PSP.

Re: Pike newbie
Purchased 26 acres 14 years ago in this township came up agaisnt varianes, and zoning laws being negative against me having my own peronal target range. It got so interferring on my needs i list the property 2 years later before breaking any ground.small profit made but did not want to go any further up into wayne co. where I could have quite possibly found my ideal property.
