You can get a lot for your money with PSA over a factory rifle of similar budget. And you don't have to be stuck with an M4ergy copy with a carbine gas system. If you order a complete upper and a complete lower you just snap them together when they come in. Obviously only the complete lower needs to be shipped to the FFL.

Or alternatively get a stripped lower and whatever parts kit you want. Should be even cheaper.

S&W For the money is not a bad deal.. two guys I work with have them and are both happy with them...
I went with the PSA upper & Anderson stripped lowers on my builds and glad I did.. Learned a lot about the AR platform that way..

Del-Ton Sport at Grabagun for $399 +$8 shipping
Comes with two mags - no rear sight

If I didn't already have a "basic" carbine, this is the one I would buy - because I like mine light and this has a pencil barrel.
Second choice would be the S&W M&P15. Proven reliable over time and currently very affordable.

Another option for a "complete" rifle - or at least MOSTLY complete is one of the ones that come without a front handguard, grip, or stock (and in this example, muzzle device) - three things commonly discarded in favor of something more personal.

Anderson offers them as well as Colt, although the Colts are up around the $700 mark.

Brownell's has the Anderson for $369 after code L9Q (plus shipping and I think a $10 "fee")

If looking into this type, keep in mind that some come with A2 front sight/gas block and others come (as seen below) with a gas block that fits under the handguard allowing a longer free float handguard. This is usually a few bucks more because it's the preferred setup.
