Re: A favor; need list of open carry confrontations
Never had an issue with any police officers, other than my Dad (Retired cop) not liking the idea when he first came up to visit and insisting that only police had the right to carry a gun and that private citizens had the privilege to carry. What few negative encounters I've had have come from ignorant and hostile citizens. Been around state troopers, deputies, and municipal cops without any problems. So far, anyway. Hopefully that remains the case!

Re: A favor; need list of open carry confrontations
My LTCF "permit" was demanded a few years back at my polling place. I refused, and pointed out that a LTCF is not required for open carry. (I did not explain the car/state of emergency stuff), and went and voted. Well voting a 911 call came it, and I asked the democratic observer to watch my son, which the judge of elections approved, so I could respond.
Only other encounter was a Trooper who shot his mouth off about me carrying to their barracks, but not to my face and the trooper that took the report was professional. I've had far more positive comments from troopers.
I doubt that incident is much help however. It is about the only one I've ever had. Might end up with one at the county library, sooner or later.
Knight's link is very good.
The fact that the subject of the call was alleged to be carrying a gun, of course, is merely another allegation, and it supplies no reliability where there was none before. And since there is no gun exception to the Terry requirement for reasonable suspicion of criminal activity, in the typical anonymous caller situation, the police will need an independent basis to establish the requisite reasonable suspicion.
The Commonwealth takes the radical position that police have a duty to stop and frisk when they receive information from any source that a suspect has a gun. Since it is not illegal to carry a licensed gun in Pennsylvania,4 it is difficult to see where this shocking idea originates, notwithstanding the Commonwealth's fanciful and histrionic references to maniacs who may spray schoolyards with gunfire and assassins of public figures who may otherwise go undetected. Even if the Constitution of Pennsylvania would permit such invasive police activity as the Commonwealth proposes-which it does not-such activity seems more likely to endanger than to protect the public. Unnecessary police intervention, by definition, produces the possibility of conflict where none need exist.
In this case, the police acted on an anonymous tip and had no basis for believing that the tip was reliable. They also had no independent reason to believe that the suspect may have been involved in criminal activity.Last edited by PAMedic=F|A=; April 14th, 2017 at 12:34 PM.

Re: A favor; need list of open carry confrontations
I see the Home Depot thread was already posted.
I was also personally threatened with arrest during a phone call in 2008 by Captain Bachman of PPD 15th district. I continued to OC In that area and never did get arrested.
There were several other LEO encounters over the years that didn't amount to anything actionable. They might be detailed in my old journal thread.
I haven't OCed much since the end of 2012 so nothing since then.If you don't know who your state legislators are go here:

Here's an encounter that was posted in 2012 from Whitehall, PA. Apparently MPOTEC training was quickly forgotten! I doubt any legal action came of it.

Don't forget Mr. Moody's jogging incident too:

I think somewhere in PAFOA is the story of the guy doing a sound check in Philly and getting pinched by the PPD as 'security' too.
Another video shows a guy at one of our states county fairs being asked to leave it in the car, but that was private property rights..
Oh yes, and what I can only imagine is one of our own, seeing how the name is so, so, so Super!

Re: A favor; need list of open carry confrontations
I didn't really do anything, but you're welcome. We should definitely get together sometime, with a big Bill We never got to have our date where you bring the toys and I bring the ammo.
I try not to be around here much anymore. I am far too Ancap to fit in well here. But it is still the best source for information on gun law and politics in PA. And then a thread title catches my eye and I get dragged in......If you don't know who your state legislators are go here:
