Default Picked up new RIA 1911 10mm .....question about 1911s

I ran this up to the range today at lunch to check function. It fed well and was very accurate but the magazine started coming out after about 4 rounds, then more frequently. Im not thumbing the mag release. Ive googled it and it gaves tons of suggestions and it seems many 1911s have this problem. Could it be the mag itself? i only have the on stock mag. Any 1911 guys have an idea before i call the company? The mag didnt fall free, it was just hanging out the magwell about 1/2 ad inch and the slide went forward onto an empty chamber.

    thanks in advance.

Load the mag and seat it like you normally do. Then look at the right side and see if the mag release is sticking out at all, it should be flush with the frame. If it is sticking out, the mag is not completely seated and as such the mag release is not completely engaged. Many 1911s like to have the mag slammed home pretty hard until everything starts meshing correctly. If the mag release is seated properly, the mag release spring might be a bit weak and the force of the 10mm is causing it to move enough to release the magazine.

I dont have any more bullets with me ATM, but with the mag in, the right side is flush, if not slightly into the frame a little bit.

I would bet it's the mag. Mine has never had an issue.

So i was at the store where i got it and the owner let me borrow a mec gar mag. I tried it today and it feeds and stays in but does not hold the slide open on the last round. So im assuming definitely a mag problem and it must be picky. I guess ill buy one from ech company until i find one that works, then order more of those. According to other boards tripp and checkmate are the only two i see with no bad reviews. Wilson combat gets about 50/50 godlike/wont feed at all. I will say this gun seems very accurate, 2" offhand groups at 10 yards. Which for me is very good.

In my limited experience, 99% of 1911 issues are the mag related. Followed by extractor adjustment.

So....latest update, got a new mag from RIA. And ordered 2 Tripp Research mags. The new RIA mag doesnt fall out of the gun, but will not hold the slide open on the last round. One of the Tripps falls out of the gun and wont hold slide open, The other Tripp fired 150 rounds and had no failures at all and locked the slide every time. So all i can assume is that it is magazine selective. Tonight im going to take a micrometer to the mags and see whats differwnt between the one good mag and the two bad ones. At least i have one reliable mag. Side note 250 rounds of the most potent 10mm in 30 minutes with g10 grips needs gloves.

So out of 5 magazines from 4 different brands only one seems to work? i would send the firearm back for warranty work but if you still want to try and fix the problem yourself the only thing i can think of is the mag release assembly. it can cause slide lock problems and allow the magazine to fall out if it's out of spec or damaged. if you have another 1911 you can try swapping the mag release assembly.

Wow, I've got a bunch of 1911's ranging from 22tcm/9mm up to 10mm and I've never had this happen...heck, never had this happen on a pistol - real head scratcher there! maybe the slide stop needs to be replaced?
