Re: Going to local firearms safety and rights seminar tomorrow..
I just figured it is a cop thing to know both in case they need to find and pick you up. People can move around. Less likely that you change jobs as much, unless you are working at the bottom. But a career or time in service would mean loss of pay and / or benefits, so less likely that you dodge employment on a whim.
It is you. You have all the weapons that you need. Now fight. --Sucker Punch

Re: Going to local firearms safety and rights seminar tomorrow..
I went to one of these not too long ago, and Josh Prince was there along with a chief and ADA. I open carried, sat in the front row, and enjoyed the seminar. It has a tendency to get a little off track but it informative and a good refresher for those already in the know.

Re: Going to local firearms safety and rights seminar tomorrow..
That is exactly why.
Either prior to NICS/PICS, or shortly thereafter, one of my uncles by marriage was visited after a purchase at his place of employment. He had a prohibiting conviction back in the 1960's or so for stealing a 6-pack of beer. ...which he didn't know it was prohibiting.
He had cleared whatever initial background checks for a Beretta 92 purchase, but once the PSP had the form in their hands and did the final determination they discovered he was prohibited. They dispatched a couple troopers to his place of work, a car dealership about 30+ miles from his home.
Fortunately for him, he didn't have the firearm with him. It was at his home. They just made him drive back to his house with them, which then they confiscated the firearm. He didn't get into any trouble for it. He explained to them that he believed his conviction wasn't prohibiting(although technically it was). They then explained to my uncle that it was prohibiting back then, but the same crime isn't now - but he was convicted when it was prohibiting. The PSP was more concerned that someone slipped through whatever system was in place at the time of purchase and getting the firearm out of the hands of a prohibited person.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: Going to local firearms safety and rights seminar tomorrow..
I give them credit for taking the time doing it but found the information presented was as basic as it could be. Would consider it a primer for a newbie.
No blatant disinformation given but a few questions answered by you need to check into that. An example was carry in the sate park a few miles away. Someone pulled it up on their smartphone and answered it.
Open carry was recognized but discouraged for the fact you may be making yourself the first target.
No one was aware of any firearms confiscation out east during traffic stops.
If I was to do it again I'd print out a few PAFOA flyers to take with me: http://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=7481
Since I'm due to renew my license I'm going to drop one off for the Sheriff. It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.
