For a basic range gun all of these have been proven reliable budget options
Yep, plus they use a Ballistic Advantage barrel, which are great barrels and are guaranteed sub MOA with match ammo.

There was a guy at Split Rock today that was selling both M&P15s and Ruger 556s for $549. I'm wishing now that I would have bought the S&W.

Actually, no I hadn't. But at $498, won't I still pay more than $549 after shipping and FFL fees?

The Delton is a good price, but I don't know much about them. Thanks for letting me know.

Del-Ton has been around a while. I wouldn't hesitate to get one.

Actually I think they are free shipping.

Dollar for dollar, deal to deal,

Here's what you are looking at

Local PA Dealer at $549 + $32.94 sales tax

Online ad @ $498 + $20-25 (avg transfer fee) + the Use Tax which you are supposed to self report on your yearly State Income tax return

It's ok to support your locals

I guess it depends on who you buy from. I do remember looking at more than one site earlier that had $25-30 shipping in addition to the sale price, which brought it back to the same ball park as what I was looking at and I actually got to hold and look over the local rifle before buying it. It's worth a few bucks to be able to see whatever it is that I'm buying up close.
