Default Women's Outdoors Skills Workshop - June 3, 2017 - Long Pond, PA

    IMG_20160612_173111.jpg

Here's an event that has been bouncing around in my head for the past several years. There's only so many times that you can hear your Girl Scout moms say "To heck with the kids, I wish we would learn this" before you finally do something about it.

Ladies, is your ability to navigate limited to using the GPS on your smart phone? Are you only able to figure out the distance that you’ve walked by looking at your Fitbit? Does lighting a campfire normally involve large amounts of gasoline? If so, come join Sandcut Outdoors for a day of outdoor immersion (full of fun and fresh air). Forget about parties selling brightly colored clothing and bags and forget about eating bugs in survival courses, this hands on workshop will teach you those skills necessary to know how to make hiking and camping more enjoyable and productive. No prior experience is required. All that is needed is a sense of adventure. Women wanting to improve their knowledge and comfort in the outdoors are encouraged to attend this event.

Class activities will include learning to navigate using map, compass, and terrain association, as well as learning how and when to use the most useful outdoor knots. Master basic outdoor knife skills as you carve your own cooking utensils, which you will use later in the day to cook your own dinner over an open fire (which you will also learn how to make).

This one day workshop will be held at The Nature Conservancy’s Hauser Nature Center, located at 1567 Long Pond Rd., Long Pond, PA and will run from 8 am to 6 pm on Saturday, June 3, 2017. The fee for the workshop is $100/person. Or, register with a friend and save $20/person. Each student will get an outdoor knife of their own as a keepsake for their future adventures. Table fare for dinner will also be provided for both herbivores and carnivores alike.

Students must be at least 18 years old and must be able to hike one to two miles on rough, uneven terrain. The workshop will be filled on a first come, first served basis, and class size is limited to 20 students. A registration fee of $20/person is required and must be received not later than May 20, 2017 to reserve a seat.

Email SandcutOutdoorsLLC@gmail.com for inquiries or to register.

And if you're on Facebook, please "share" this event to help get the word out.

OK, I'm making some changes to this course. Due to several requests by moms wanting to bring their daughters, the lower limit to enter the class has been changed. Students must now be 13 years old or older to attend the course. Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

This is the last week to register for this course.

It'll make someone a nice Mother's Day present!
