Re: Reload gone wrong? Glock destroyed, deforming hand injury
About 2 years ago I was shooting my Bersa UC45. About 3 shots into a magazine I heard a pffft instead of a bang. So I racked the slide and an empty casing fell out and a live round went in. Caught off guard, I started carefully inspecting my piece, pulled the mag and racked the slide again to eject the unfired round...and to my dismay found a .45 slug lodged about 1/3 the way up the pipe. So apparently the primer ignited and there was just enough juice to propel the slug that far. After a little while I started to think about what might have happened if I had pulled the trigger again. Someone commented in the blog about a possible barrel obstruction in the Glock.....so now I am reliving that incident 2 years ago in my mind and it gives me butterflies in my stomach. By the way, I was using reloads......(not mine, someone else's)....and trust me, that will probably be the last time.
Anyway, in the situation depicted in this thread, I also gave some thought to the possibility of a discharge from inside the magazine in the Glock. Could have been a mal-fitted magazine maybe?...as in, maybe someone used a .40 mag to stack 9mm Cartridges? I don't know, is that possible? If it was something like that, where a primer rattled against the metal surrounding it, it might have ignited. I mean, Glocks are semi-modular right, and can be switched out to different calibers quickly, right? Could it be that the shooter simply fucked up something of this nature?
I have to say that I have NEVER EVER been the least bit attracted to Glocks at all. Somethin about them, at a mere glance, just turns me off and always has since I was a teen in the 80's. And now there is one more thing to cement that point of view.
Even though I believe that this accident was probably caused by something someone did wrong regarding the loading of the ammunition or the magazine, I believe that it would have been much less catastrophic had it been with a steel framed beast of a gun, or with one with a less modular design.

Indeed it could be an example of liberal anti-gun propaganda:
"See? If you shoot guns, this could happen to you! "
I sure would like to know what really happened to that Glock, though...

I think an awful lot of these kabooms are the result of a squib followed by a tap rack without regards as to what caused to stoppage. In the service we had range actions and immediate actions for combat. There is a difference.

I wonder at the reaction time when a squib occurs during rapid fire. Guess it better not be too rapid!
