The word from Targetmaster is that over 90% of the denials for firearm purchases came from folks using Non-Driver license IDs. Insurance gave them some grief and after discusing this with several law enforcement agencies, the decision was made. It also came to light that some felons were coming there to shoot and then having someone straw purchase the gun they liked. This is certainly a CYA measure.

Take another look at my post. I have never held a DL. I have only ever maintained a state ID. My point was I would not be able to use their range but I don't care because they have a right to make rules regarding their business.

Actually, you very much CAN use their range. Read the policy linked right at the beginning or the OP.
There are some stipulations, but you certainly CAN shoot there with a state issued ID.


My mother in law lived her entire life without ever holding a driver's license or driving a car. And she didn't live anywhere remotely close to someplace with public transportation.

@mpan This is the ABSOLUTE last time I am going to explain it. Because I have this thing where I hate repeating myself. R.I.F. No private business, person, or entity can deem a state's identification of any sort INVALID. If they don't want to accept it is a different story. It's like walking into WAWA, 7-11, A Plus etc to buy cigarettes and being told that you cannot use your STATE ISSUED IDENTIFICATION to buy cigarettes. But if you show me your STATE IDENTIFICATION and ANOTHER STATE IDENTIFICATION you can buy the cigarettes. You tracking? It's really not that hard to understand.

When did I state they can deem a valid ID invalid? They sure as hell can say it is not good enough for them. If you disagree show me the statute that requires them to allow you to shoot at their range because you showed them an ID.

Stop insinuating they are breaking the law by not accepting a state ID as being good enough for them.

This thread is a good example of why we need serious tort reform. Our litigious society has created a circumstance where a business can level ridiculous restrictions on free consumers, and the 'pro-freedom' crowd actively supports the bizarre restrictions.

I shouldn't get sued for selling a gun to someone without forcing them to pass a NSA security clearance, polygraph, and psychic evaluation.
