Ar15 as its a standardized platform, parts easily obtainable. Should be able to pick one up for $500-600.

After much deliberation, I have decided to change my budget around and build the rifle instead of purchasing. The lower receiver is going to be a GWACS Armory CAV-15 Mk2 with milspec FCG, while the upper will be from PSA with a 16" 1:7 Mid-gas stainless barrel. total cost for the build will be between $1000-$1150 with taxes, shipping, background check and transfer fees. Thanks everyone for your opinions and suggestions.

$1,250??? Holy CRAP - what the heck kind of upper did you buy???

I'm building two different AR15s right now using GWACS CAV-15 lowers and I'm not skimping on parts by buying low-end, basic stuff, but neither one will total anything NEAR twelve hundred dollars.

That's the top end of the price range I calculated while putting together the list of parts. To get to that, nothing I'm buying is on sale or shipped for free. Like i said, that price includes all shipping, transfer fees, and the background check fee. Since i have yet to buy any of the parts, I figured it might be safer to run with that as sales may end before i have a chance to buy them. Its nothing more than a rough estimation. It might not be the best way of going about the process but I'm new to this. Its my first time building a firearm.

EDIT: I also made a typo while writing my last post. Hit the 2 button instead of the 1.

Gotcha. I think you can come in way under that.

Thought PSA came out with a "platinum" line of parts or something. LOL

could almost get 3 off the shelf ar's for that price. miss the fun of building but damn. every time i adjust my budget, it's down.
enjoying the core15scout i got, would love a pistol or a purple one for the wife. told her we can just paint one eventually.
but hell, 1 ar and $500 in ammo, 2 ar's and spare parts or ammo. 1 ar and ammo and parts. $1200 is a lot of $$$

good luck with the deals shopping, they are many and plenty. might find yourself back in the sub $1k range. and search around for ffl's, i just paid $25 for a transfer when going rate at the gun stores around here is $35-$50+ depending on store and the bs they pull. best part is, the ffl is in a little hideyhole and is closer than the LGS.
