Re: Has anyone shortened an AR15 ejector spring?
I guess "beveled" would be a better term. It softened the hard edge all the way around.
I put it all back the way it was and haven't messed with it further. One of these days I'd like to get it figured out so there isn't incoming brass three benches down from me.

Re: Has anyone shortened an AR15 ejector spring?
If I get spring with a few extra coils, will I hit the person 6 benches to my left, opposed to just 2 benches to my left?

For bench shooting, just make a small "wall" out of cardboard or wood to bounce your brass off of.
I've even seen where guys hang a tarp or a sheet to catch their brass.
And then there's this if you want one pre-made and don't mind dropping $60:

Or
Build your own!

Re: Has anyone shortened an AR15 ejector spring?
I have used meltable material to catch brass. The brass is hot enough to partially melt onto the neck/mouth and has to be removed during reloading prep. Maybe at a distance like in the video, the brass would be a little cooler. (Notice he melted the net to stop fraying).
Another consideration. I was discussing similar ideas with some of the guys on the range. Consensus leaned toward not liking others being unable to see if the rifle is open and safe for going down range.

Re: Has anyone shortened an AR15 ejector spring?
IMHO... while shortening the ejector spring would work.
Your AR sounds over-gassed.
Have you tried a heavier buffer ? A heavier buffer will slightly ( mill-seconds ) slow down the BCG's rearward movement... that alone will help brass abuse.
And as such retard the cyclic speed...
Is this a Carbine ? What gas system length ?

Re: Has anyone shortened an AR15 ejector spring?
One is a stock Spikes Tactical free-floating carbine. I just trimmed its ejector spring one coil and have yet to try it. The other is a build, carbine length, free floated, plan to cut it too. The ejections are normal. I just want to soften the throw.
