Re: SHAD FISHING ?
Fishing for shad is anchoring in a channel with little jigs trailing behind the boat waiting for a shad to swim upstream and attack it.
You could sit for hours and nada. Or you could have a flurry of activity. They are strong fighters, so shad fishermen are willing to sit in a boat looking like someone waiting for a late SEPTA bus to show up. Patient and hopeful.
Best way to cook shad is to put it on a cedar plank with seasoning over hot coals until crispy. Throw away the shad and eat the plank.

Re: SHAD FISHING ?
Have you tried smallmouth fishing in the Delaware? The Big D fishery has been coming back in the last couple of years.
If you are willing to take a short drive up to Wyoming County, the fishing in the North Branch of the Susky is outstanding. Any given day, you might catch smallies, walleyes, pike, and an occasioanal musky.

Re: SHAD FISHING ?
The hickory and american shad will be running very soon in the lower Susq. I usually go off of port deposit. The caveat is you can't keep any of them and you have to enter occupied Maryland. I never had any desire to eat shad. Its basically a big stinky oilly minnow. My grandmother likes the roe and my grandparents parents and relatives used to eat them way back. Just never appealed to me, I'd rather catch and release.
