Has anyone built a concealment shelf??
I think I want to build one and have been looking at tons of pics on-line and a couple how-to's.
Have any of you guys built one? If so, any pics, tips, tricks, etc.
I don't have any design really in mind yet, just something big enough to fit a couple pistols and a couple magazines. One thing I see that I do want to incorporate is the magnetic latch.

That stuff LOOKS cool, but generally speaking, security through obscurity is not a great idea.
The only way I would have that kind of stuff is if I had no children in the house and didn't plan to.

Re: Has anyone built a concealment shelf??
Keep in mind that when it comes to concealment, the more ordinary the better.
If the device seems even slightly odd or unusual it will be noticed.
I once built a trunk for rifles.
I just assumed people would see a trunk and not think anything of it, that they would just see a nonspecific trunk that could be for anything.
A guy walked into the room, saw the trunk, and immediately said the trunk was unusually long and asked what it was for.
So again, ordinary is best, altering something that already exists and belongs in the space works very well.
Baseboards, floorboards, central air vents, couches, and other ordinary things of this type work very well. How can you have any cookies if you don't drink your milk?

Re: Has anyone built a concealment shelf??
Kids have a way of finding anything and everything.
It is almost impossible to keep secrets with kids around.
Loaded or not, you need to lock up your guns with kids in the house.
Something like a Fort Knox pistol safe is what you need to keep a gun upstairs.

Bolt it inside a cabinet to keep it out of sight.
You can keep it loaded, and/or keep a loaded magazine if you keep it locked in the safe.
Keeping an unloaded pistol for self defense is ill advised.
Best to keep it loaded, or keep it unloaded with a loaded magazine in the safe. How can you have any cookies if you don't drink your milk?

Re: Has anyone built a concealment shelf??
Concealment serves a purpose. I have weapons concealed in my home. As you pointed out, not a solution to keep guns away from kids. But if I had any kids in this country that were pinned on me they would probably be trustworthy around firearms unless I ended up with a malfunctioning one that I had to hit a lot.

Anything you build/make kids will find. Mine are either in a safe or on me.

Now that the "kids" crap has been addressed multiple times, it would be awesome to hear more about the actual thread topic.
I'm building my own concealment device at the moment. Perhaps I'll share later.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
