Has anyone built a concealment shelf??

I think I want to build one and have been looking at tons of pics on-line and a couple how-to's.

Have any of you guys built one? If so, any pics, tips, tricks, etc.

I don't have any design really in mind yet, just something big enough to fit a couple pistols and a couple magazines. One thing I see that I do want to incorporate is the magnetic latch.

That stuff LOOKS cool, but generally speaking, security through obscurity is not a great idea.

The only way I would have that kind of stuff is if I had no children in the house and didn't plan to.

I want one for my bedroom and the kids won't know how to open it. I want to keep a pistol in it, no magazine in it, nothing in the chamber. My safe is downstairs, we sleep upstairs and I won't just keep a pistol laying around.

Kids have a way of finding anything and everything.
It is almost impossible to keep secrets with kids around.
Loaded or not, you need to lock up your guns with kids in the house.
Something like a Fort Knox pistol safe is what you need to keep a gun upstairs.

Bolt it inside a cabinet to keep it out of sight.
You can keep it loaded, and/or keep a loaded magazine if you keep it locked in the safe.
Keeping an unloaded pistol for self defense is ill advised.
Best to keep it loaded, or keep it unloaded with a loaded magazine in the safe.

Concealment serves a purpose. I have weapons concealed in my home. As you pointed out, not a solution to keep guns away from kids. But if I had any kids in this country that were pinned on me they would probably be trustworthy around firearms unless I ended up with a malfunctioning one that I had to hit a lot.

Now that the "kids" crap has been addressed multiple times, it would be awesome to hear more about the actual thread topic.

I'm building my own concealment device at the moment. Perhaps I'll share later.

My father had a handgun when I was a kid. Never knew where he kept it, nor did I look for it.

Did find his nudie mags though.
