My $.02 . . . I recently bought a XD9 service, I was looking at both the XD and the Glock. I was lucky enough to be able to fire both before my purchase and the XD just seemed to better "fit" my hand comfortably. Both guns are great, and the Glock has an excellent track record. If you can, try everything you're interested in and make your decision that way. For me, this is what worked and I'm very happy with my purchase.

I've seen an XD rust just from a guys fingerprint on the slide, and being exposed to a very minimal amount of humidity (camping) overnight. Then, the next day his fat a$$ fell in a river, you can guess how that turned out for the XD.

When I worked at the dreaded Top Glock, I would use the slode of my 17 to hamer out the pins in other Glocks. One guy asked how tough the finish was on the Glock, so I threw it and let it skid across the warehouse floor. Never a scratch.

The XD finish seems more like "paint" then anything.

They fixed the problems with the finish in all models after April 2006 (I think thats the date) Mine was built before that and I've never has a problem...just keep you damn gun clean.

Yes, but sometimes cleaning your gun all the time isn't an option. Soldiers in Iraq don't break out the cleaning kit every time their guns get wet or dirty.
