Remington Arms Lays Off 122 Workers

Company officials say the job cuts are a result of slowing sales and high inventories.

    Author: Associated Press

ILION, N.Y. (AP) — The Remington Arms Co. has laid off more than 100 workers at its factory in New York's Mohawk Valley.

The Utica Observer reports that the Madison, North Carolina-based firearms and ammunition manufacturer announced Wednesday that it had laid off 122 employees at its operation in the village of Ilion, on the Mohawk River 55 miles east of Syracuse.

Company officials say the job cuts are a result of slowing sales and high inventories.

A spokesman for the United Mine Workers of America Local 717 says about 110 of the workers are union members.

Before the layoffs the Remington plant employed about 1,100. The company laid off 231 workers in Ilion in 2014, some in part because of consolidation of plants at a new facility in Huntsville, Alabama.

The effect of Trump being elected. Same reason prices are dropping. Manufacturing to keep up with the Obama threat; now, supply is high, demand is low(no threat of a ban). I stated this in November after the election. Ammo will be next. It is dropping in price due to the warehousing(hording) expecting the Clinton victory. Free market working like it is supposed to.

I don't know why they are laying off their workers when their R51 and RP9 pistols have been so successful.

R51 is fixed. Handled poorly. RP9 just hit the market. I haven't heard bad things yet. Have you?

I'm telling you, it's because coal miners can't be making guns.

How in the hell is Remington a UMWA plant?
I guess coal still is used to make steel...

Yep, it's been having issues. Ambi slide release that isn't ambi. Saw I YouTube video of one that could barely make it through a mag without ftf issues. Pretty much seems like a crappy design that was rushed to market without enough testing.
