Not if you shoot like Ed McGivern where it sounds like one shot.

    Just a funny story...
Once upon a time long, long ago snuggled up in a pup tent on the cliff top overlooking Flaming Gorge, a heavy stepping two legged critter circled our tent.
I'd left the .357 at home and had a two cell flashlight. Once was enough!
Besides, when lunch comes strutting through camp while the pancakes are cooking you need something on your hip.

Unfortunately, home invasions nowadays.. the real violent ones are done by multiple offenders. Yes, you could have that one drunk or stupid guy that breaks in. However, what do you do when three of them are intruding and all get in? You have a multiple target situation requiring reloads? Will you be able to reload that six shooter if need be? Will you be able to sling the single shot shotty for a follow up? If it were the late late 1800's and you were living like Josey Wales, God Bless you and you would have a couple of them thar pistols to pull or you could whistle Dixie! LOL. Today, any HD setup IMHO must be able to deal with multiple targets and be able to be reloaded tactically. The equipment is out there, reasonably priced and with some training, pretty simple to use.

OP here.......I thank you all for your insight and feedback. For those of you that may be wondering, yes the single action is still in the quick access safe. It wasn't hard to ascertain the popular opinion on this matter. That said, ther is plenty of room in the gunvault for a second handgun so I'll throw in one of my semis too.

I have 911 on speed dial. I think it's 9-1-1. Gotta check, haven't used it since I installed it.

I don't expect an all out gunfight with potential intruders so I feel adequately armed with six rounds. Does anyone else rely on a single action for defense? I also had a single shot 12 gauge at the ready but it has since been put back into the safe.
Tactical handgun instructors I have taken a couple classes with, over the years, cautioned us students to never "cock a defensive revolver"..reason?..trigger pull is very low in cocked position and some legal systems will look at it as if YOU were sneaking around the house.."looking for a fight". I personally think this is BS, but I can see sorta their point. IMHO a single action gun is uselsss w/o being cocked..whether it is a Colt SA or a M1911 clone..makes no difference to me. I do think there's times where you may need to cock yer revolver b4 shooting..like if a thug is across a decent saize room, etc, but since most encounters occur at 10' or less, I guess it's moot.
I think it's important to practice with yer gun like you will carry it... DA or SA.
