Years ago when revolvers were still the most common LEO weapon, I was at an instructor course where a guy went through the qual course with a single action revolver. One stage as I recall was 12 rounds from 15 yards in 25 seconds. The distance was just far enough that you had to pay attention to keep all of the shots in the center box of the old TQ-15 target. We were all curious how this guy would reload and make the time. He had what looked like a piece of tubing that we found out was his "speed loader." He comes out of the holster, delivers 6 hits, ejects the empties and then lines the tube up to the cylinder, rotates the cylinder and the rounds dropped in. He then shoots his remaining 6 under time. I don't think I could do it but it can be done. Would a single action revolver be my first choice for defense.....no. Would I feel undergunned using a single action for defense...also no. I have been doing this just long enough to start to realize what I don't know. YMMV

Lots off good information based on real world use and training with combat revolvers debunking a lot of earlier taught BS.

Double action revolver under the pillow.
    12 gauge by the bed.
You can keep the jamming half asleep geepers where the switch to turn it on stuff.
Seriously, if you are going to train with a semi-auto weapon to where it's all muscle memory then fine. If not, don't.

Same thing applies for all action types.
    Some people just plain suck.

Agree the DA revolver is a basic tool sans gimmicks. Kind of the same as the difference between a point and shoot box camera having zero adjustability and a 35mm with bells and whistles that need to be remembered during operation.

I was thinking that instead of a baseball bat, I may place a whiffle ball bat in the corner.
I'd hate to think about what might happen if I hit one of my family members with a baseball bat by accident in the middle of the night.

I'm still trying to understand the initial dilemma here regarding the use of anything other than a crippling, outdated, method of operating a handgun - for self defense.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

    Sarcasm.

I sort of got the feeling the OP was using an "inferior" method (single action) as a way to avoid shooting a family member under stress.
Sort of the line of thinking of those who carry with no round in the chamber - be UBER SAFE.

Mybe I was way off base though. I just can't understand why anyone would want a single action pistol as a defensive weapon.
May as well use a muzzle loader instead of an AR15 too.

I agree not your clearest thought. are you against sa revolvers or saying it is better than nothing?

Got it. I think whatever some one has available is better than nothing.

I have a sa revolver ready for HD. It is sixth on the list of what to grab if the situation arises. Depends on how far things get or how many miscreants need to be dealt with.
