It's a great revolver. It will shoot as well or better than most anyone I know. Shot one in PPC-style competition for years. The S&W 686 guys sneered at me for bringing a Ruger until I got good enough to smoke them with it.

I did put in a spring kit to get the double-action pull down to about 9 lbs and took a hard stone to the action to knock the rough edges off. Just LOVED that little detente right before the trigger breaks that you don't get on a 686.

I have a smith 13-2 .357 and the ruger kills it hands down...I wouldnt trade this GP for anything, how smooth is the single action cocking with the new spring?

Couldn't say for sure, never shot single-action much. BTW, try getting your grip higher on the backstrap and cocking with your support hand thumb. Better leverage on the hammer spur and less disruption of your grip = smoother and faster shots.

I no longer have a 686 Smith. My GP100 does everything better and it feels better in my hand.

Picked up a used one in excellent shape and I won't trade it for anything. It moved right to the top of my favorite list. Excellent trigger and very accurate. More than happy

It's probably my favorite gun to shoot- its ready to go tomorrow to the range for a little range time and the 686 stays home
