    Default Torn between

Torn between Springfield range officer and Colt competition model. Both full size 45 acp., both offer great value for price.

Any experience with either, or any advise?

I have the colt competition, blued in .45 and I love it. I haven't competed in any local matches with it yet because I still need a good holster and some more mags but it is super accurate and the dual recoil spring really does make a difference.
Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

I can't vouch for the Pony, which is likely a fine pistol. However, my SRO kicks ass and I love it. Picked it up two years ago at King Shooters in KoP; got a fair price and she has met all my expectations.

Both are good. I prefer colt. I do not like ambi safeties or extra large ones.

Would the fact of Colt being series 80, the disdain of many, swade anyone toward the RO for the absence of the additional safety?

I thought the Springfield 1911's had the same style of safety that Kimber uses. Depress the grip safety and it activates the plunger.

If you can find the colt, buy it. Colt is officially FUBAR'd and has begun laying off employees. Custom shop is gone altogether.
I'm only here for the wood c-rings.

Thanks for your response. Actually the springfields have the series 70 system. The only ones with the 80 style extra safety are the newer Kimbers, the Colts, and the Sig 1911s

Such news would prompt me to purchase the springfield, if I can find one. The usual online stores have been out of ROs. According to a 1911 forum, the colt custom shop is not taking any more orders being they are so backed up with current work to the degree of a long 18 month wait. For a company that is in financial problem, Colt has come out with a lot of new models such as the competition model.
