The gun permit unit is a police department staffed office with sworn officers openly carrying their service weapon conducting the interview.

It's either punishment for pissing the wrong guy off or end of career easy money. I think I saw both types.

Things have changed. When I lived in Philly and applied for a ltcf there was a point that no weapons could pass. I also remember most of the employees being non-LE. This was probably 15 years ago or so.

Interesting,I wonder what circumstances led to the cops taking it over.

No matter how many times I read 18 Pa. C.S. § 6109 I can't find the part that says an interview is part of the application process.

No?....then perhaps that part of the process is more made up Philly bullshit.

Nobody gets transferred there by pissing someone off. It is a sweet assignment. Day work, weekends off, no special uniform details.

Was this at the current location at 990 Springgarden Street? How do you know they weren't law enforcement?

That sounds more like it.That unit certainly does not appear to be any kind of punishment.

Across from Colosimo's when they were still there. I can't be sure but most of the people in "street clothes" did not have a badge displayed but a few did. The officers in uniform did not have guns on them and there was a sign stating no firearms past this point.
