That may well be the case, but it doesn't trump this

    I used to work there
Every time I flew (not out of Philly) it went in the box, and the box got tossed in the bag. One time they tossed the tag in the box, the other time in my duffel.

How does that work in practice? When I've flown with firearms (and I've flown out of PHL with them) I'm fairly certain the case gets thrown in the belt along other bags.

It seems no one is tracking it and on the other end (also arriving to PHL with firearms) it's just one of many other bags on the baggage claim belt.

There is no way to 'track it' unless as you say they hand carry it and then it might as well have a big tag saying "Firearms" in it.

BTW, this reminds me of an airport employee at PHL yelling to me from half way across the ticket hall "Do you have a gun in there!" as I carried a long gun hard case in the ticket counter area. I wonder what would have happened if I had answered in the same loud voice "Yes, I have guns!".

    Latest response - pretty thin...
Thank you for your additional email.

I can understand your concern however, we have specific policy and procedures in place that are within regulation with TSA. The red tag alerts the ramp that the bag is to be returned to the Baggage Service Office rather than baggage claim so that it can be picked up by the passenger. The customer will need to show their claim check to pick up the item. This tag is used for all bags requiring special handling and not specific to firearms.

Ask them what other types of bags require special handling.
