I was a fan. If you're unfamiliar with him and get the chance to read any of his work I suggest you check it out. Was a regular with "Handloader" magazine and his collection "Pet Loads" is a classic.

Wasn't he the father of the 7-30 Waters cartridge? We lost a good one there.

Yes, Its my favorite cartridge for a Contender Pistol. I will have to bring it out next time I go to the range.

After the earlier posts I started thinking so I bought a copy of his Pet Loads book (Complete edition). Its a huge book at 1200 pages and has good writeups on many cartridges.

For $55 shipped I am happy to have it in my collection. Lots of info on loads that you do not find in the standard reloading books including comments on accuracy and pressure reading. But, It is weighted to the more popular cartridges (still, its a lot of them at 1200 pages). And there are some sections on loads for some pretty obscure cartridges that would be difficult to find anywhere else.

This is not meant to be the only book you should have in your library though. But if you are an intermediate / advanced reloader you should get it.

There are many editions of his Pet loads out there. They kept coming out as installments. I would recommend getting the complete edition and not having to "upgrade". The books are not in the most obvious order so you really need an index for the complete volume.

Ceph, I don't know how I missed reading this - but many thanks for posting up the links and a great article (written in 1974) on loading .45-70's. IMO, absolutely priceless information...

Wow. Checked a used book website....the few books available are sky-high. Sellers know what they have.
